EXPORTING AROUND THE WORLD
We have more than 25 years of experience in exporting our Kelpies to many countries around the world and we know how to do it smoothly and professionally so the customer has no worries and no problems. In most cases all they have to do is go to the airport and take their dog home.
We get lots of enquiries from countries around the world including America, Belgium, Italy, South Africa, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Croatia, Sweden, Spain, Japan, Norway, Hawaii (USA), Denmark, Croatia, Hungary, Switzerland, USA, Russia, Argentina and more...
We work in with a number of different International dog transport companies to arrange getting your Working Kelpie overseas, safe and sound. These companies are specialists and very professional and experienced and make sure your dog is well looked after. Often when sending a dog overseas it may involve up to four or five different companies, quarantine service, airlines, government departments & Vets. This can all be arranged all this for you in Australia so in most cases there is nothing the customer has to do except go and pick up their pup from the airport. ...
These Dog freight companies deal with the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS ) and the special AQIS certified Veterinarians, Road Transport, Export Certificates, Airline stopovers, overnight boarding for vet requirements, Government charges, Consulate fees, and the Airlines. They also supply the special IATA approved crates that are required. (which you get to keep). We also use special dog transport companies to deliver pups to the AQIS Vets or airport and for Rabies vaccinations, Leptospirosis, Brucellosis testing, etc.
There is a lot of paperwork, Government requirements, freight companies, transit fees, special vaccinations and tests, flight arrangements, quarantine service checks, and veterinary requirements to handle, but these companies and ourselves are very experienced in dealing with all these procedures. Usually, it is a very easy process for you to buy a Noonbarra Working Kelpie from us in Australia. Usually you just turn up to your nearest international airport and about an hour or so after the plane has landed you can take your Noonbarra Kelpie home with you.
For us, there is a lot of extra work when exporting overseas as well as more basic training to cover travel, noise, strangers and of course a lot of crate training. We need to make extra sure the pup has a stable temperament and won't be worried by the travel. For most of our Noonbarra puppies going overseas it is a big, fun adventure and the pup enjoys meeting the airline staff, new people etc and is not bothered in the least by jet noise or being crated for extremely long periods.
On some exports we have spend weeks and dozens of hours organising the export, especially to some European countries. We need to work in with animal transport companies etc. Also because we can't have the dog returned for training and we obviously can't work with the dog, there is more time spent trying to get a 'perfect' match for the overseas client. In many countries Kelpies are a fairly rare dog, so there is not instant help from a neighbour who is experienced with Kelpies as there is in Australia. We can also organise special 'WKC Export Certificates' if needed. All pups are fully registered with the WKC (Working Kelpie Council of Australia Inc.) They are not SHOW DOG registered with any showing organisation in Australia or with the European FCI.

Max arrived on time this morning in great shape and is
a wonderful pup. He seemed quite calm at the airport and has quickly begun
to explore and settle into his new home. I can't thank you enough, I've been
looking forward to today for a long time and couldn't be happier. |
USA - The Australian dollar ( 2010) is equal to about 85 cents US. Therefore $1000 Australian is around $850 in American dollars.
EUROPE - The Australian dollar ( 2010) is equal to about 65cents Euro. Therefore $1000 Australian is only $650 in Euro Dollars.
NEW ZEALAND - The Australian dollar ( 2010) is equal to about $1.20NZ. Therefore $1000 Australian is approx. $1,200 in New Zealand Dollars.
These rates change each day so this is only a rough guide.

Deposit on Kelpies for overseas customers (including New Zealand) is $250 (Australian). This is higher than Australian deposits as often there is a lot of work in organising the export, sometimes more than one pup has to be kept back and also to cover any special vaccinations or Veterinary requirements. This can be paid with Paypal, International Money Order or direct to our bank (Bank fees this end). All payments must be in Australian dollars.
A deposit is absolutely essential if you are making a firm, secure booking. Without a deposit your order cannot be held. Once we get a deposit you are put on a special list and that list is the one we use for discussions and assessments on each puppy. From that list we evaluate the pups for each customer. As we get many thousands of enquiries each year, we need to refer to a list where we know the people are serious about purchasing a Noonbarra Kelpie.
Before you send a deposit, we like customers to let us know as soon as possible if they are interested in a litter and we will supply them with any details they need. We prefer overseas customers to have some understanding of Kelpies before they commit to a purchase. At least get a copy of our Noonbarra Stud DVD and a few books, especially 'Kelpie Basics' but others like 'Rockybar Kelpies' give a great insight into what makes these great dogs. If you want to proceed with the purchase the booking will be locked in and a deposit required.
As most litters have a number of bookings and many are fully booked before they are even born we strongly suggest that if you are serious about buying a puppy that you get a deposit to us as soon as possible. It doesn't have to be for a particular litter. It might be for a certain sex, colour, behaviour or working ability or by a particular sire. A deposit is absolutely essential if you want to secure a booking and have a puppy held for you. We are emphasising this point because in the past we have had a number of people who didn't bother to pay a deposit and were then disappointed when someone else got the puppy they wanted.
Our waiting list time often changes but usually it is about 8-16 weeks for a great companion dog or top quality sheep worker but raises to 6-12 months or more for dogs with special requirements or lots of different requirements.
Once we have your deposit you are put onto a special list that we refer to constantly and your needs are discussed in relation to the puppies we have. Customers that have booked and paid a deposit are always our #1 priority. Other (non-deposit) inquiries will only get contacted when, or if, extra pups are available.
A deposit is an indication that you are genuine about purchasing a puppy. We have thousands of inquiries each year and although we try to help everyone and answer all their questions, we can only put serious time into helping people we know really want a puppy.
DEPOSIT REFUNDS
If the pup you have ordered from a specific mating is not available then your deposit will be refunded in full. Please note that a deposit is non-refundable if you just change your mind. You can transfer your deposit from litter to litter and we encourage that if the exact puppy is not available in a litter. If you change your mind and prefer to buy an adult and the right one is available you can transfer your deposit that way as well. You can also postpone your purchase or even transfer your deposit it to a friend or relative.
PICKING UP YOUR NOONBARRA KELPIE
Everything is handled this end, so in most cases all you have to do is go to the airport and pick up your Noonbarra Kelpie puppy. You don't need special licences to import and for most countries such as the USA, Canada and many European countries, your dog doesn't have to be quarantined when arriving. We try to make the whole process as easy as we do for customers who can come to our stud and pick up their dog in person.
It is important to be prepared for the arrival of your pup. You will get a crate when your pup arrives. We crate train all our puppies and have found it the easiest way to work with little pups. Sometimes puppies can arrive very dirty if the airline has kept the pup in the crate without a break. You will need at least an old towel and probably some water to clean your pup. even though they leave here in beautiful condition and in most cases turn up in a perfect clean condition, it is not always the case, so be prepared. This is often the case with USA internal (domestic) flights.
Bring a leash with you as you will need to stop on the trip home to let the pup relieve itself. Those wet napkins or nappy wipes are great for cleaning dirt off puppies feet. If you can't leave the pup in the crate on the way home, then bring an old sheet or towel to put on the seat of your car.
When you get your pup it is always a good idea to get the pup completely checked by a veterinarian a few days after arrival and get your Vet's recommendations on any particular diseases or health problems in your area or country such as Ticks, Heartworm, special diseases or parasites. There are now vaccinations available for Ticks and Heartworm. This applies even more to overseas sales where countries may have diseases that are not found in Australia, such as Rabies.
After getting your pup don't waste any
time in getting a dog tag. The last thing you want is for your pup to
go missing in the first week or so.
TRAVELLING WITH YOUR KELPIE ON THE AIRLINE
In some cases, a slightly cheaper way of freighting your Kelpie is to fly with the pup as 'accompanied'. If you, or a friend are coming to Australia you can sometimes take the dog back with you at a reduced rate. NOT all Airlines offer this!
United Airlines to the USA is one that does. Qantas does not and charges full freight rates. These discounts by the airlines are only on the airfare (which is only a small part of export costs) and has no bearing on all the other export costs.
Please note that this method has very little to do with the comfort of the puppy. The passenger has no contact whatsoever with the puppy and the dog will not be seen until it comes through customs at the destination. Under NO circumstances can a puppy travel in the passenger area of any airline from Australia! Don't even ask. This is a strict law in Australia. They must be in the air-conditioned cargo hold and passengers have no access at any time. Not even at the airport until the puppy is released by customs at the destination.
From past experiences, we do not recommend that you try to get friends in Australia to organise things for you. There is too much that can go wrong and often does if the person is not experienced in exporting animals. It is also a lot of work involved in organising the export and it can take up an enormous amount of time. There are a few things that need to be considered when getting a friend to bring back a Kelpie with them for you. Firstly you have to remember that any reduced cost is only the airline charges and doesn't include any government fees, vaccinations, road transport, transit fees, export certificates, government fees, health certificates, vaccinations, veterinary requirements, holding crate, overnight boarding, etc.
If you have to wait a few weeks more for someone to accompany the dog you also have to consider whether the cost of the Kelpie is any higher and also if the size of the dog is any bigger. In the past we have found the difference between two weeks can sometimes add on around $400 - $500 in additional freight costs because of the need for a larger crate and the authorities will not allow a dog to be cramped. If the crate is too small the dog will not be accepted to fly out. You cannot argue your way out.
BUYING TWO KELPIES AND SAVE MONEY
Another way of bringing down the cost of importing a Working Kelpie from Australia is to buy two Noonbarra Kelpies at the same time. This can sometimes bring down the cost per dog quite dramatically. So if two people decide to buy a dog at the same time they can share the costs. This is harder for us to set up but is sometimes possible. The only requirement is that the pups weigh less than 14 kilograms each and be around the same age and get on with each other and able to travel together. Ideally two pups from the same litter. Another advantage of this method is that the two dogs often share a large crate and can keep each other company. We would crate these two dog together on many occasions before they travelled overseas.
As a guide, the 2nd dog travels at about 60 -75% less than the first dog. A recent freight quote was $2180 for one pup and $2880 for two pups. In Europe a 2nd dog often costs approx. $400-$700 Australian dollars more. To the USA a 2nd dog can cost from about $400 - $800 Australian Dollars more, depending on the destination. L.A. and San Francisco tend to be the cheapest.
KELPIE VETERINARY REQUIREMENTS
Your Noonbarra Kelpie puppy or adult Kelpie must have special Veterinary checks, vaccines and tests before leaving Australia. Your dog will also often need export & health certificates and other paperwork. Your dog often has to be at the Airport up to (2) two days in Sydney before departure to have all this done. We handle all this, so usually very little has to done your end.
In many countries there is no quarantine for Kelpies coming from Australia as we have very little animal disease here (no Rabies, Foot & mouth, Mad Cow, etc.). As far as we are aware there is still no quarantine for Scandinavia, Africa, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Japan, South America, New Zealand, Canada, Belgium, Holland or USA - but there is for Britain, although this is about to be changed. It is best if you check in your own country.
Some European countries also require Rabies vaccinations or/and Brucellosis and Leptospirosis vaccinations and tests. Because of these special requirements some puppies are between 4 and 5 months before they are allowed to travel. In most cases, We do not send puppies overseas after 12 weeks of age. So if your Government requires this then you must get a letter of exception from them, so the puppy can travel under 12 weeks of age. This is a fairly standard letter and there is no problem getting it from most European countries but it is important because without it, a puppy can not travel.

A Noonbarra Puppy
FREIGHT: Prices for freight, veterinary requirements and transport of dogs overseas change all the time. It depends on the size of the dog, what your country requires in veterinary tests, the currency exchange rate etc.
The following prices are only a very rough guide to international dog freight prices. Please check with us for any changes. Surprisingly sometimes the prices drop. But most of the time they tend to go up. These figures do NOT include the price of the Kelpie.
USA - $1700 - $2600 Australian Dollars. Average would be around $2300. Since the 9/11 terrorist attack, there are higher admin costs to internal destinations due to security and insurance measures. Internal flights for animals have skyrocketed in the U.S. It seems everyone is trying to fleece the public but using security or insurance to justify the means. Some airports in the US now also require that the customer uses an import agent. This is another cost for virtually doing nothing so try to avoid it if possible. We can send pups to U.S. at around 8-10 weeks of age.
NEW ZEALAND - Approx. $1800 - $2000 Australian Dollars, including all the new special AQIS veterinary requirements.
JAPAN - Around $2000 -$2100 Australian Dollars.
CANADA - $2100 - $2300 Australian Dollars. Airport clearance fee. Pups can travel from 8 weeks of age.
MIDDLE EUROPE - $2000 - $2500. Much depends on airline route and special veterinary requirements for individual country. Pups sometimes can't travel to countries in this area until around 5 months of age. This will raise costs by more than a $1000. Usually we will not send pups at this age. Others must go before 12 weeks of age.
NORTHERN EUROPE - $2100 - $2500. Can sometimes be even cheaper than central Europe if no special veterinary requirements and airline route doesn't attract high transit fees (airport stops, such as London). We send pups under 12 weeks of age. Pups sometimes can't travel to some of these countries until 3 or 4 months of age. This will raise costs by more than a $1000. Usually we will not send pups at this age.
HONG KONG - $1600 -$1800 Australian Dollars. Plus HK airport clearance fee.
BRITAIN/IRELAND - We don't send to this destination. Due to Veterinary and quarantine restrictions it is generally not worthwhile importing to Britain or Ireland. The cost and the time frame from ordering to receiving a dog is just far too great.

KELPIES: Importing a puppy from us is generally quite easy as we have been sending overseas since the early 1980's and very experienced. We handle most things this end so it's easy for the customer. Prices for most Noonbarra Stud Kelpie Pups going overseas range from $1200 - $1500, depending on destination (with all paperwork and puppy export training package). For example USA, Canada, New Zealand are usually $1200. Puppies can go at any age over 8 weeks to these countries. There is no quarantine period as Australia is a high disease free country. In most cases, you pick up your puppy from the customs terminal about 30 minutes to an hour after the plane has landed.
European destinations are $1500. It is very rare for us to send a pup over 12 weeks of age. It is difficult for us and difficult for the pup. Cost goes up massively too. Including air fares, bigger crate etc . To European countries, if they are over 12 weeks of age, they will probably need a Rabies vaccine too. Which in Australia because it is a live vaccine (and Australia does not have this disease) it has to have special government permission, forms have to be ordered and completed, and rabies vaccine has to be administered by a special accredited Vet (AQIS) and costs a couple of hundred dollars. Once over 12 weeks, pups need a second series of vaccinations as well as much more intense training one-on-one as well as additional socialising and handling as this is the most important developing and training period of their lives and we need to stop training our dogs and other pups in and around the house and basically devote all our time to just one older puppy. It is also an awkward time for puppies and some can stress at that age and don't adapt as quickly as young pups. So we avoid sending any pup much older than about 10 or 11 weeks if possible.
European Prices are generally $1500 which covers the cost of the puppy and special export training and all extra office work, filling in forms, emails, paperwork, phone calls for European exports etc. This is for pups around 10 weeks of age. Add to that the cost of importation (Air fares, crate, Vet fees, Government fees) and any destination pickup airport fees.
Puppies to some European countries such as Hungary cannot go until after 4 months of age and therefore we won't send a pup unless the customer has a letter of exception from their government department (usually Dept. of Agriculture or Veterinary). Some customers get their pups sent to neighbouring countries and travel to pick them up. This is quite legal.
|
All countries will have some import fees and taxes. This changes all the time and can even be vary between different cities within a country. Most European countries have a Euro Entry Fee (Around €125). There are also additional terminal fees which vary from airport to airport. Some countries also charge an additional customs entry fee. Canada charges a 13% import tax on base price of dog. Some U.S.A airports now require that customers use a customs agent (as of 2009) at the airport. |
IMPORTANT: For puppies being exported to Europe, all main paperwork (and letter of exception, if required) has to be finalised before the puppy turns 5 weeks of age (preferably earlier) and payment to us and animal transport company completed. In the past, we have had some serious problems with some European customers waiting until the last minute or banks in their countries being incredibly slow to release funds. If the money is not available to us, then the pup doesn't leave here. If the money is not available to the transport company then they won't put the pup on the plane or even get the required checks done. So its very important.
Many countries have restrictions on the age they can be sent. Puppies to the USA and Canada can go any time after 8 weeks. In most cases we may look at around 9 or 10 weeks to get in more basic training. It can depend on the maturity of the puppy. In some restrictive European countries the rule is over 3 months, while other countries make it 4 months. It can also depend on the export Veterinary requirements for your country. We won't send pups over 3 months (12 weeks of age).
We take sending a puppy overseas very seriously. We are well aware that it is a big investment for a customer and we do our very best to get them the best pup possible. We put a lot of time and work into every puppy we export. All puppies going overseas undergo a special export training program. This export training package includes things such as the essential crate training, (higher level than for interstate travel), travel and noise issues etc that are needed by puppies travelling overseas. We will not have puppies stressed when they travel. We want them to arrive happy and relaxed at their destination. It also includes other important basic foundation training, Some sit, down-stay training, socialising, lead work, calm exercises, exposure to different situations and more. This training is normally started at 6-7 weeks of age. This is very time consuming but it means the customer gets a happy, well started puppy.
Obviously there is a lot more work and time in organising for the puppy to be exported and doing the paperwork needed. We also spend a lot of time on socialising, noise de-sensitising and crate training. We will never sell any of our pups overseas unless they are very happy to be crated and will not be stressed by the journey in any way. We want them to enjoy their trip. This is extremely important to us.
In 2008, we received this email from a repeat customer in America. This customer has Noonbarra Ruthless and now Noonbarra Caellum. "I just got home from picking up Caellum and I already have nothing but wonderful things to say. He popped right out of his cage at the airport like nothing had happened. He is fun, loving and absolutely beautiful! He has only been home for 15 minutes and has already fit in so nicely. Him and Ruth are already running around together like they have been friends forever!"

All our Noonbarra puppies are fully registered with the Working Kelpie Council of Australia (WKC) and are listed in the highest category for Purebred Stud dogs. The Working Kelpie Council is one of the biggest dog registering organisations anywhere in the world. Our Kelpies are NOT registered with any Show Dog organisation. That includes the Australian Kennel Control. They are NOT registered with the European show dog association called Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) situated in Belgium. (which some European customers seem to want to be able to participate in FCI events.). Noonbarra Kelpies are not registered to be shown in the dog shows (confirmation shows) anywhere in the world and we are strongly opposed to our dogs being shown.
If needed, we can organise for a special 'Export Certificate' to be issued by the WKC. This has been required by some Asian and European customers.

Noonbarra Bob in Sweden
"Just wanted to tell you that Bob does very well here in Sweden, he gets along very well with Cleo and they play a lot. I did not think to very much about the calm of your strain of Kelpies since Cleo always been calm, but Bob even calmer and really a very easy pup to raise, the other day he fell asleep in busy pet shop, so he is very good in new environments ,just as I had hoped . I think he will be very good for tracking ,search and rescue and obedience."

"I gave her a good run when we got back from the airport and she was brilliant-it was in an open air off-leash dog park and she had a terrific time with a number of dogs. She is very very sweet and very, very calm. .. She is everything I requested, and I am confident that she will be a terrific dog .....

Noonbarra Cliff in Switzerland
Finally Cliff has arrived his destination. Everything was going smoothly. He's really a great little dog. He is in very good condition. I'm glad, that I've bought different toys for him. He loves them all! ..Again.... thank you for all you've done for us! ... We are absolutely happy with our little boy and I'm sure, that he will become to a great worker!...He's the dog we wished to have.
Noonbarra Jezebel in Canada
"I collected Jezebel from the airport today. The most striking thing about her right now is her seemingly unshakeable self-confidence. Nothing seemed to worry or frighten her and was very happy to greet anyone who wanted to meet her. She seemed to settle right in and tried to take charge of the situation. When our calf came up to investigate the new arrival, she walked right up to him, showed a little eye, and barked at him when he didn't move along .. She's a real charmer- we love her already. ..."Jez is an absolutely delightful pup and I can't say enough good things about your breeding program when people ask about where she came from."
Noonbarra Ruthless in Virginia U.S.A.
"Just wanted to let you know that Ruthless (Ruth) arrived safe and sound. Qantas did a great job. She is delightful. Rambunctious, energetic, affectionate, loving and seems very smart. She has captured our hearts already....I love my puppy. She is a lot of fun and she has a great personality. I think she is going to be exactly what I was looking for... Anyone who has any experience with kelpies or owns one has heard of your kennel name. Everyone I talk to has great things to say about you guys. Thanks again for such a great dog."
"Well Katie has finally arrived, she is doing great. When I picked her up she wasn't a bit upset. She is very out going and self assured, she has a lovely disposition. I am sure she will be a great working dog. She is very pretty, she already knows her way around. .. She is a very calm, patient girl, yet she will show force if need be. She has a lot of power for a puppy so young. I didn't really expect that so soon. She is going to be a very nice worker, we need that with some of our stock.

These days the Kelpie is
finding a growing acceptance in many countries that need good dogs to
work stock including Canada, the United States of America, Argentina,
Iran, Mexico, Sweden, Malaysia, South Africa, Germany, Wales,
Scotland, Ireland, Russia, Belgium, Denmark, Hawaii (USA),
Netherlands (Holland), Norway, Finland, Italy, New Zealand, Hong
Kong, England, Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, New Caledonia and
Norfolk island etc.
Wherever possible, we like to have puppies registered in the same names as the customer calls their dog. Working Kelpies do not have long complex names like show dogs and our pedigree systems will just cut them off. They usually have simple names the same as people such as Julie, Sam, Ben, Molly, Fred, Amy etc.
If you have a name in mind that is short and can be easily understood and pronounced in English then we'll try to get the same name registered for your dog. We prefer names to be under 8 or 9 letters and single words. You can have two words but they must be very short such as 'Big Red'.
